National Family Week: Celebrating Families and Their Resilience
Family is the beginning, the middle, and the end. It is everything. National Family Week is a time to honor and celebrate the love, support, and resilience of the tens of millions of American families that make our Nation strong and keep the American Dream alive.
Building a Stronger Future for Families
For too long, too many families in this country have faced an uncertain future. Parents have anxiously wondered about their ability to afford rent, college tuition, retirement, and medication. Many have had to uproot their lives and move away from their hometowns to find work. President Biden ran for office with a mission to change this reality. His goal was to rebuild a strong middle class and grow the economy from the bottom up, providing hardworking families across the country with more breathing room.
Investing in American Families
The historic legislation that has been enacted is delivering on this promise. The American Rescue Plan has kept millions of families in their homes, ensured food on the table, and preserved jobs during the pandemic. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has initiated over 40,000 projects to rebuild our Nation’s infrastructure, expand access to clean water, and connect homes to high-speed internet. Efforts to revitalize American manufacturing have created nearly 800,000 jobs, and investments in science and technology are being made through the CHIPS and Science Act. The Inflation Reduction Act has made healthcare more affordable for nearly 15 million Americans, capping out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for seniors on Medicare and reducing insulin expenses. The PACT Act is providing healthcare and benefits to veterans exposed to toxic materials while serving. The fight against gun violence continues with the signing of significant gun safety laws, and equal rights and dignity are protected with the Respect for Marriage Act and increased support for child care and caregivers through executive actions.
Continuing the Journey
While progress has been made, there is more work to be done to ensure that every family in America has an equal shot at a better life filled with dignity and respect. National Family Week is a reminder of the importance of spending time with loved ones, both the families we are born into and the families we create. Families are the glue that holds our Nation together across generations, and we will continue investing in their dreams.
Celebrating National Family Week
Therefore, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, proclaim November 19 through November 25, 2023, as National Family Week. I invite States, communities, and individuals to join together in observing this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities to honor our Nation’s families.
JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR.
