Alleged Murder of a Transgender Teenager in Pennsylvania

A tragic incident in Pennsylvania has shocked the community, as a man is accused of killing and dismembering a transgender teenager he met through a dating app. DaShawn Watkins, 29, of Sharon, has been charged with murder and related counts in connection to this case.

Suspect and Charges

Watkins, who was arraigned earlier this month, is currently being held without bail at the Mercer County Jail. He is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse. Prosecutors are also considering filing hate crime charges in the case.

Victim and Investigation

The victim, Pauly Likens, 14, of Sharon, a transgender girl, was reported missing by relatives after last being seen on June 22. Dismembered human remains were discovered in and around the waters of Shenango River Lake shortly after her disappearance. The Mercer County Coroner’s Office determined that Likens died from sharp force trauma to the head before being dismembered, ruling her death as a homicide.

Events Leading to the Incident

According to county prosecutors, Watkins had arranged a meeting with Likens through the dating app Grindr. Surveillance footage and cellphone records indicated Likens was waiting to meet someone near the lake’s canoe launch area on the night she disappeared. Watkins was seen making multiple trips carrying bags out of his apartment and driving to the lake in the early morning hours after the meeting.

Family’s Reflection

Relatives of Likens described her as a prankster with aspirations of becoming a park ranger. Her mother, Jen McClure, emphasized the importance of ending hate in society, highlighting the loving nature of her daughter.
