Last Meetings and Declined Last Meal
Prior to his execution, Zack had a final meeting with his wife and spiritual advisor. He declined the opportunity to have a last meal.
Supreme Court Denial
Despite his legal team’s request for a stay of execution, the US Supreme Court denied the appeal. This decision came after Zack’s lawyers argued against the lower court’s ruling that he was not intellectually disabled.

Brain Dysfunction and Mental Impairment
During his trial, Zack’s defense counsel argued that he suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome and posttraumatic stress disorder, which are both brain dysfunctions and mental impairments.
Response from the State
Attorneys representing the state of Florida opposed the stay of execution in a response filed last Thursday.
Multiple Murders and Confession
In 1997, Zack was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Ravonne Smith. He also received a life sentence for the killing of Laura Rosillo. Both women were met at different bars before their tragic deaths.
