Update: D.C. Hits First June 100 Since 2012, Heat Advisory Issued for Sunday

Heat Advisory Impact

Heat advisory until 8 p.m. today and again Sunday 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

National Airport, where D.C. observations are recorded, hit 100 degrees today, setting a new record. Dulles Airport and Baltimore/BWI also reached 100 and 101 degrees, respectively, breaking records for the date. Most areas in the region experienced temperatures in the upper 90s with a few hitting 100 degrees.

Record-Breaking Heat

High temperatures in the region are approaching or surpassing record highs for Saturday’s date. Dulles Airport tied its 1988 record at 99 degrees. Baltimore Washington International Airport broke its 1988 record by hitting at least 101 degrees. National Airport recorded at least 98 degrees, still shy of its 101-degree record.

Historical Weather Note

This marks the end of the fifth longest streak without 100-degree temperatures on record for D.C. Looking back, the last time June saw 100-degree readings was in 2012.
