Boosting Renewable Energy Projects in Arizona

Creating Quality Jobs and Advancing Renewable Energy

The administration of Gov. Katie Hobbs is celebrating the impact of federal dollars in Arizona, emphasizing the creation of quality jobs and the advancement of renewable energy projects. At an event held at Honeywell’s Advanced Air Lab in Phoenix, speakers highlighted recent and upcoming clean energy commitments in the state.

A Collaborative Effort for Climate and Infrastructure

The event focused on the collaboration between the public and private sectors to leverage federal climate and infrastructure legislation. The presenters summarized the discussions from a private roundtable, showcasing how these federal dollars are already being deployed throughout Arizona to create jobs and promote long-term resiliency.

Unprecedented Opportunity for Arizona

Blaise Caudill, Energy Policy Advisor for the Governor’s Office of Resiliency, described the federal dollars as a “once in a generation – once in a lifetime opportunity” provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. These dollars are not only creating quality jobs for Arizona families but also investing in renewable energy projects, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and energy efficiency rebates for families.

The Largest Climate Investment in U.S. History

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), signed into law by President Joe Biden, is the largest climate investment in U.S. history. By utilizing private capital, the IRA aims to incentivize businesses to invest in clean energy technologies. The legislation also encourages businesses to locate in underserved communities, providing bonuses to some companies.

Impressive clean energy Investments in Arizona

Since the passing of the IRA, Arizona has seen $10.1 billion in clean energy investments, ranking 10th in the nation. These investments are expected to create over 13,000 jobs in the clean energy sector. Arizona’s clean energy economy is described as “thriving” and “emerging.”

Four Key clean energy Sectors

Arizona has announced 16 new clean energy projects across four sectors: solar, batteries, electric vehicles, and electrical grid distribution and transmission. These projects are driving the demand for batteries and creating opportunities for American manufacturing.

Expanding Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

The expansion of electric vehicle charging station infrastructure is also a priority. The Arizona Department of Transportation plans to have a station every 50 miles on interstates and highways, with $76.5 million in federal funding available through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

Pioneering Sustainable Aviation

Honeywell Aerospace, a recipient of funding after the IRA passed, is researching and developing technologies for sustainable aviation. Their goal is to move transportation from the road to the air, exploring the concept of electrically powered vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Honeywell has already made significant progress towards carbon neutrality in the aviation industry.

Creating the Workforce of the Future

Honeywell recognizes the importance of establishing clean energy solutions while creating job opportunities for Arizonans. They believe that the solution to carbon neutrality lies in optimizing existing aircraft, Reducing Emissions, and investing in the right scientists and engineers for long-term sustainability.
