Reierson’s Involvement in the Capitol Protest
Prosecutors revealed that Reierson, a Schiller Park resident, deliberately positioned himself in front of a police barricade during the protest. He proceeded to push a barrier made of bicycle racks into a line of police officers.
Eventually, Reierson ceased his actions and departed from the Capitol’s West Plaza. He was heard encouraging others to continue moving forward by saying, “Don’t stop; keep going.”
Legal Ramifications and Arrest
Following his arrest by FBI agents in Illinois on August 23, Reierson became one of over 1,450 individuals facing federal charges linked to the January 6 Capitol protest. This extensive group of defendants hails from various states across the country.
U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia Judge Reggie Walton accepted Reierson’s admission of guilt and set a sentencing hearing for October 16.
Capitol Riot Aftermath
The protest on January 6 escalated into a violent riot as individuals sought to disrupt the transition of power after former President Donald Trump‘s defeat in the election to current President Joe Biden. Over 500 individuals were charged with felony assaults on police officers or obstructing law enforcement efforts.
The investigation into the Capitol protest remains ongoing, with former President Trump expressing intentions to pardon the January 6 protesters.
