Jeanine Pirro, host on Fox, faces $1.6 billion election defamation suit once again.

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro is back in the hot seat as Dominion Voting Systems’ lawyers want to question her again over texts they received just hours before she sat for a sworn deposition. Dominion filed a $1.6 billion election defamation lawsuit against Fox News in relation to false claims of Election fraud.

Dominion is a supplier of Voting machines used by many US states in the 2020 elections. Fox News was accused of giving Pirro a platform to push false Conspiracy theories and claims of Election fraud, which supposedly damaged Dominion’s reputation.

Pirro is best known for her conservative views and aggressive style of journalism. She has been a host on Fox News since 2006 and has been one the network’s most visible personalities.

The case presents a challenge to free speech and highlights the role of the media in shaping public opinion. Fox News has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that its reporting was accurate.

Pirro’s re-questioning by Dominion’s lawyers follows a request by Fox News’ lawyers for the case to be dismissed. The network argued in court filings that the lawsuit should be dismissed, in part because it was based on a selective reading of what it had reported about the election.

The lawsuit was filed in March 2021 and named a number of Fox News’ biggest on-air personalities, including Pirro and Lou Dobbs. Dobbs, a former Fox Business host, was dropped by the network last year after Dominion filed a separate $1.3 billion defamation suit against him.

The case against Fox News has been seen as a test of whether US citizen or corporate defamation laws can be applied to news outlets. In the past, US media companies have enjoyed broad First Amendment protections when it comes to reporting on matters of public interest.

The case is set to go to trial in August 2023.
