Pakistan Cricket Introduces Yo-Yo Test to Enhance Fitness Levels across the Country – Domestic Players

### PCB to Reintroduce Yo-Yo Test for Player Fitness Improvement

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made the decision to reintroduce the Yo-Yo test in order to enhance the fitness levels of players across the country. The move comes after a period where the fitness test was not being conducted regularly, but now Director of Domestic Cricket, Khurram Niazi, has approved a plan to focus on improving fitness standards.

### Two-Phase Fitness Test Plan

The fitness tests will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase scheduled to begin nationwide from July 11. The initial phase will involve fitness assessments at the district level, followed by tests at the regional level. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also given his approval to the fitness plan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high fitness standards among players.

### Consequences for Failing Fitness Tests

Players who do not meet the required fitness standards will not only face exclusion from the national team but also from regional squads. Niazi has implemented a policy where regional contracts and team selection will be contingent on passing the fitness tests. This applies to all levels of players, including Test cricketers, international cricketers, and national cricketers.

### Understanding the Yo-Yo Test

The Yo-Yo test is a modified version of the Beep test, designed to assess aerobic fitness through running drills. Players are required to run between two cones positioned 20 meters apart, with the aim of reaching the opposite cone before the next beep sounds. As the test progresses, the speed and intensity of the running drills increase, making it more challenging for the participants.

### Importance of Fitness in Cricket

Former Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez has highlighted the significance of maintaining high fitness levels in cricket. Hafeez mentioned a conversation with the team’s trainer where he expressed disappointment over the lax approach towards fitness standards under previous management. The reintroduction of the Yo-Yo test reflects a renewed focus on ensuring that players are in top physical condition to excel on the field.
