New York State Distributes Federal Funds for Green Upgrades

New Energy Efficiency Rebates Available

New York State residents can now access federal funds from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to receive energy efficiency rebates for upgrading their homes. This initiative aims to promote green upgrades like insulation and heat pumps.

Financial Support for Homeowners

Under the EmPower+ program, low- and middle-income homeowners can receive up to $14,000 per house for green upgrades. These upgrades include air sealing, insulation, ventilation, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and electric upgrades.

Income Eligibility Tiers

There are two tiers of income eligibility. For low-income households, the income threshold for a family of four in Brooklyn is under $70,056. Middle-income households fall within the range of $70,056 to $124,4000.

Renter Rebates

Renters are also eligible for rebates to make green upgrades in their homes. The state has allocated $39.6 million in initial grant funding to support these initiatives.

Additional Rebates for Energy Reduction

New York is implementing the Home Efficiency Rebates program with $159 million in funding from the IRA. Eligible households can receive up to $8,000 in rebates for measures that reduce energy usage by at least 20%.

Government Support and Initiatives

The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to lowering costs for American families through programs like the Inflation Reduction Act. New York is leading the way in providing support for energy-efficient home improvements.

Financial Assistance Programs

In addition to federal funds, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority offers financing and rebate programs for homeowners. For more information, visit their website.
