Poor Mike Pence: A Campaign Running on Empty

Fueling Controversy and Inadequacy

Mike Pence’s campaign ad, meant to portray him as an average Joe, has backfired, leaving him with a trail of controversy and inadequacy. In the ad, Pence’s attempt to fill up his tank goes awry when he fails to select a grade of fuel and never presses the nozzle. The homemade-looking ad, coupled with this gas station blunder, only serves to reinforce the perception that Pence is metaphorically and literally running on empty.

Heckled and Heckled Again

During a recent appearance at the Iowa State Fair, Pence faced repeated heckling. One woman even shouted insults, calling him a “traitor” and “far from a Christian.” It’s clear that the criticism stems from Pence’s decision to distance himself from his former boss, Donald Trump. Pence has been vocal about his belief that he did the right thing by following the Constitution instead of blindly supporting Trump. However, this stance has not been well-received by the MAGA crowd, resulting in lukewarm receptions and booing at his campaign events.

A History of Disobedience

Pence’s troubles began when he refused to comply with Trump’s demand to reject the Electoral College vote. This decision led to Trump and his supporters turning against Pence, with some even threatening him with violence. Despite this, Pence went on to write a book criticizing Trump’s behavior on January 6. His attempts to appease both Trump’s detractors and supporters have ultimately backfired, leaving him with no support from either group.

A Profound Role in Trump’s Indictment

Pence’s role in Trump’s indictment for “unconstitutional behavior” is significant. Pence’s testimony during the grand jury proceedings reveals his willingness to tell the truth, even if it means implicating Trump. While this may be seen as a badge of honor by Pence, it alienates him further from the MAGA crowd. With no hope of regaining their support, Pence is now trying to appeal to baseline conservatives and moderates, even though his extreme views and history will likely hinder his efforts.

The Road Ahead

Despite polling at just 1 percent in the race for the nomination, Pence shows no signs of dropping out. However, it’s difficult to see who would support his campaign at this point. With Trump as a potential debate opponent, Pence may find himself humiliated without Trump even mentioning the indictment. The upcoming January 6 hearing, if cameras are allowed, promises to be another challenging moment for Pence. It’s clear that his chances of becoming president are slim to none.

The Final Verdict

It’s time for Pence to face reality and withdraw from the race. His chances of success are virtually non-existent, and there are few remaining supporters within the Republican Party or among independents. Perhaps a move to New Jersey, where people can’t pump their own gas, would be a more suitable endeavor for Pence and his Mother.
