Fox News Viewership Spiked In May Amid Trump Trial Coverage

Fox Broadcasting Company Sees Increase in Viewership Across Linear TV and Streaming Platforms

In a recent report by Nielsen, it was revealed that programming from the Fox Broadcasting Company experienced a surge in viewership across both linear television and streaming platforms in the month of May. This increase was largely attributed to a spike in users of the Fox-owned Tubi streaming service and a rise in viewership for Fox News, particularly during coverage of former President Donald Trump’s criminal hush money trial.

According to Nielsen data, viewers watching Fox programming accounted for 6.4% of all TV usage in May, securing the seventh spot among media companies. This marked a significant jump from April, where Fox had a 6.1% share, making it the media company with the highest month-to-month increase in viewership.

The growth in viewership can be linked to a 5% monthly increase in viewership for Tubi TV, a free ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corporation that represented 1.8% of all TV usage in May. Additionally, there was a 1.6% monthly rise in viewership for the Fox News Channel.

Viewers were drawn to Fox News in May due to its coverage of Trump’s trial, which resulted in him being the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes. The channel emerged as the most-watched across cable in the week of the verdict, with an average viewership of 2 million at any given time, surpassing TNT’s ratings during the NBA playoffs.

The Walt Disney Company held the largest share of TV usage in May, with 11.4% of viewership. YouTube followed in second place with 9.6%, while NBCUniversal, Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Netflix rounded out the top media companies in terms of TV usage.

Overall, the Fox Broadcasting Company’s increase in viewership reflects a trend of shifting preferences among audiences for both linear TV and streaming services. With Tubi TV and Fox News leading the charge, Fox continues to capture the attention of viewers across various platforms.
