White House Roundtable Focuses on Job Growth and Training

A recent roundtable at the White House brought together Black mayors, county officials, philanthropy, unions, and NGOs to discuss strategies for expanding and training the local workforce. The event centered on the opportunities created by President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, which aims to provide high-quality jobs for American workers.

Mayors and County Officials Collaborate

The roundtable included mayors from various cities, including Baltimore, Augusta, Atlanta, Birmingham, Little Rock, Long Beach, Mount Vernon, and Newport News. These cities have been designated as White House Workforce Hub locations. County officials from Shelby County, Fulton County, Almeda County, and Tarrant County were also in attendance.

Accessing Resources for Job Creation

Participants were provided with information on technical resources available to access programs under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. The discussion focused on best practices for local governments to establish effective partnerships with philanthropy, unions, and NGOs in order to train and connect American workers to job opportunities. The Investing in American Technical Assistance Guide and the White House Workforce Hubs were highlighted as valuable resources for ensuring equitable access to good jobs for all.

During the roundtable, senior officials from the Biden-Harris Administration were present, including Tom Perez, Steve Benjamin, Brendan Danaher, Harin Contractor, Ryan Berni, Stephanie Sykes, Michael Smith, and Tom West. These officials provided insights and guidance on job growth and training initiatives.
