Breaking News: Charleston Man Faces Felony Charges in U.S. Capitol Attack
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCIV) — Following the events of January 6, 2021, a Charleston resident, Justin Daniel Perrou, aged 44, has been apprehended by the FBI in connection to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has formally charged him with multiple felony offenses.
Charges Against Perrou
- Civil disorder
- Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon
- Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon
- Disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon
- Engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon
Perrou is also facing two misdemeanor charges for disorderly or disruptive conduct and physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings.
Details of the Alleged Actions
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Perrou is accused of hurling a bullhorn, a long pole, and a folding chair at law enforcement officers during the incident. Additionally, he allegedly used a chemical irritant against the officers and forcefully removed an officer’s face shield.
