Newport News Man Arrested for Involvement in US Capitol Attack

Matthew Stallings Charged with Multiple Felonies

A Newport News man, Matthew Stallings, has been arrested and charged in connection with the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Department of Justice released a statement confirming Stallings’ involvement. Stallings, 34, is facing several charges, including civil disorder, engaging in physical violence with a deadly weapon, and assaulting officers. He also faces misdemeanor charges related to the incident.

Identifying Stallings through Video Footage

The Department of Justice was able to identify Matthew Stallings by analyzing video footage from the riot near the Lower West Terrance Tunnel of the Capitol. In one video posted on YouTube, Stallings can be seen discussing the mask he was wearing during the attack. The video also captures Stallings admitting to having planned for the events of January 6. Stallings sprayed an “orange substance” towards the direction of officers near the tunnel.

Part of Over 1,300 Individuals Charged

Matthew Stallings is just one of more than 1,300 individuals who have been charged in connection with the insurrection at the US Capitol. The attack on January 6, 2021, resulted in widespread condemnation and an ongoing investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice. Stallings’ arrest and charges are part of these ongoing efforts.
