The Controversial Statements
After his controversial remarks in September 2023, where he referred to transgender people as a “throbbing middle finger to God” and targeted transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, far-right radio host Charlie Kirk has now made a startling suggestion regarding the January 6 Capitol riots.
Kirk, the founder of Trump fanaticist group Turning Point USA, suggested to his audience that instead of engaging in violence during the insurrection, they should have engaged in gay sex.
The Capitol Riots
On January 6, 2021, the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. was attacked by a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump, just two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
In contrast to the peaceful protesters at the Capitol, who were charged federally for trespassing, Kirk implied that if the rioters had taken a different approach, such as stripping naked and filming themselves having gay sex like in the infamous sex tape filmed in a Senate hearing room, they may have avoided prosecution.
The Senate Sex Tape
A gay congressional staffer was fired after allegations that he appeared in the sex tape, which purportedly showed two men engaging in sexual activity within a Senate hearing room. However, an investigation into the video was dropped due to a lack of evidence of any crime being committed.
The Legal Consequences
The Department of Justice has charged over 1,265 individuals with various offenses related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Charlie Kirk’s History of Controversial Statements
This is not the first time Charlie Kirk has made headlines with his bizarre statements. In 2022, he claimed that the “transgender movement is an introductory phase to get you to strip yourself of humanity to mesh with machines.” He described this conspiracy theory as “Ready Player One meets Inception,” suggesting that the end goal of the trans movement is to turn people into literal machines controlled by a greater entity.
Ari Drennen, the LGBTQ+ program director at the watchdog group Media Matters, highlighted Charlie Kirk’s “gay sex” comments on social media. The public response to Kirk’s statements has been mixed, with many expressing shock and disbelief at his audacity.
