A Violent Storm Hits Clarksville, Tennessee
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Videos recorded on Saturday depict a tornado moving through Clarksville, the fifth-largest city in Tennessee.
The dramatic footage below shows the dark funnel cloud creeping across the horizon, while houses and cars in the foreground stand defenseless.
TORNADO DAMAGE REPORTED IN TENNESSEE AS SEVERE STORMS ERUPT IN SOUTHEAST
Another video captures the tornado forming near a bustling mall parking lot. The towering gray cloud diminishes the surrounding buildings in comparison with its enormous size.
The following clip shows the tornado passing behind towering transmission towers in a field. The texture of the tornado becomes more evident, displaying the powerful winds swirling around its core.
A traffic camera in Clarksville recorded the storm system that produced the tornado. The footage shows vehicles going about their day as if nothing extraordinary is happening.
Tornado Touches Down in Hand Estates
The sheriff’s office of Montgomery County, where Clarksville is situated, released a statement confirming the touchdown of a tornado in the Hand Estates neighborhood in the northwestern part of the city. Numerous homes in the area suffered damage.
The office assured the public that there have been no reported casualties or missing persons.
Severe Weather System Hits the Region
The supercell that produced the tornado, along with the entire thunderstorm, was part of a severe weather system that had been moving through the mid-South on Saturday. Before reaching Clarksville, the thunderstorm is believed to have generated at least one other tornado in northwestern Tennessee.
