Donald Trump Plans Rally on Third Anniversary of Capitol Riot

Former President Donald Trump has announced his upcoming “commit to caucus” rally in Iowa, which will be held on the third anniversary of the U.S. Capitol riot. This event, marked by the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters resulting in arrests, injuries, and deaths, has generated controversy due to its timing.

Thad Nearmyer’s Perspective

Thad Nearmyer, Chairman of Iowa’s republican party, claims that the rally’s scheduling on January 6 is purely coincidental. He initially overlooked the significance of the date but later realized its connection to the Capitol riot. He assured reporters that the timing was unintentional.

Trump supporters clash with police and security forces as they storm the US Capitol in Washington D.C on January 6, 2021.

Dismissing the Significance

Nearmyer anticipates that the Capitol riot will be brought up during the rally. However, he downplays its impact, considering it to be less significant than portrayed in the media. Despite being the deadliest event since the War of 1812, Nearmyer believes it was not as significant as it was made out to be.

This news follows Trump’s recent removal from Maine’s Presidential primary ballot by Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who cited a 14th Amendment clause preventing “insurrectionists” from running for President.

Although Colorado attempted a similar removal, Trump was eventually reinstated on the ballot after the state’s republican party appealed the decision.
