Former Trump Adviser Peter Navarro Appeals Contempt of Congress Case
Request for Reconsideration
Peter Navarro, a former Trump adviser, has made an appeal to Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch to reconsider Chief Justice John Roberts’ decision denying Navarro’s motion to remain out of prison while he pursues an appeal in his contempt of Congress case.
Background
Navarro was convicted in September on two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the House Select Committee investigating the U.S. Capitol attack on January 6. He reported to prison in Miami on March 19.
Appeal Process
In a recent filing, Navarro’s attorney Stanley Woodward requested a reconsideration of the Chief Justice’s denial. Woodward highlighted that the D.C. Circuit court’s appeal briefing schedule extends beyond Navarro’s expected completion of his four-month prison sentence.

Legal Proceedings
Justice Roberts previously concurred with lower court decisions that rejected Navarro’s request to remain out of prison. During Navarro’s trial, the House panel sought to question him about efforts to delay the certification of the 2020 election, known as the “Green Bay Sweep.”
Executive Privilege Argument
Navarro’s argument that former President Trump had invoked executive privilege over his testimony and documents was ultimately unsuccessful.
