Representative Garret Graves (R-La.) proposed an amendment to water permitting legislation that would impact companies utilizing funds from the Inflation Reduction Act. The amendment was defeated by a vote of 99-323.

Party Divisions Exposed

Energy week was meant to showcase House Republicans’ stance on energy policy. However, the Graves amendment highlighted the internal rift within the party regarding a law that was passed in 2022 without any GOP support.

Opposition from Trade Groups

Several major trade organizations, such as the American Clean Power Association and the Edison Electric Institute, vehemently lobbied against the amendment.
