My triceps are burning, my shoulders tensed, my body as straight as I can manage as I lower myself to the floor, before pushing back, puce, to complete a press-up that is “really not bad”, according to the personal trainer Zana Morris, who is critiquing my technique over Zoom. “There’s a tiny bit of movement in your back, and you might want your arms slightly lower down, along the shoulder line. But you can do a press-up.”

Phew. Only another 99 to go … at least if I’m planning to take part in next month’s Cancer Research challenge, for which the charity is asking fundraisers to complete 100 press-ups a day throughout April, an undertaking it describes as “tough but doable”.
