Michael Flynn’s Legal Battle Against Jan. 6 Panel
Former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, Michael Flynn, found himself in legal turmoil as he sued the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack in an attempt to prevent them from obtaining his phone records and requiring his testimony.
Flynn’s Lawsuit
On Tuesday, Flynn filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order against the committee’s actions, alleging they were unauthorized and unconstitutional.
He argued that his concerns about the integrity of the 2020 elections were valid and not criminal, regardless of their accuracy.
Legal Setback
However, US District Judge Mary Scriven dismissed Flynn’s request, citing procedural lapses and failure to meet the necessary requirements.
She highlighted Flynn’s delayed response to the committee’s document requests and postponed deposition, concluding that no immediate harm was evident to grant his emergency order.
Committee’s Interest
The committee’s inquiry into Flynn stems from a meeting he attended at the White House in December 2020, where election conspiracy theories and extreme measures, like seizing voting machines, were discussed.
Refusal to Cooperate
Flynn’s legal battle mirrors that of other Trump allies, including Mark Meadows and Steve Bannon, who have faced contempt charges for failing to cooperate with the committee’s investigation into the Capitol riot.
As the legal saga continues, Flynn and his allies remain embroiled in a high-stakes political showdown.
