VCU Graduates Protest Commencement Speaker
Over the weekend, Virginia Commonwealth University students made a bold statement during their graduation ceremony. As Governor Glenn Youngkin took the stage to deliver the commencement address, dozens of students walked out in solidarity with Palestinians and in opposition to Youngkin’s stance on racial equity in education.
Controversy Surrounding Speaker Selection
Prior to the ceremony, the decision to invite Youngkin as the speaker faced backlash. The VCU NAACP chapter called on university officials to revoke the invitation, while students announced plans to stage a walkout as a form of protest.
