Shooting Incident at Ramadan Event in West Philadelphia

On a Wednesday afternoon in West Philadelphia’s Parkside section, a shooting occurred at the end of a Ramadan event attended by around 1,000 people. The incident took place at the intersection of 47th Street and Girard Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Police Response and Arrests

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel reported that three individuals were shot, including a 15-year-old who was later taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after being shot by police twice in the shoulder and leg. Additionally, a 22-year-old and another individual sustained gunshot wounds. Five individuals, including the 15-year-old, are currently in custody.

Bethel mentioned that the 15-year-old and 22-year-old are in stable condition, while the status of the third person is unknown. Law enforcement recovered five firearms from the scene.

During the incident, a child in the vicinity was hit by a police car and sustained a broken leg.

Law Enforcement Assistance

The FBI and ATF Philadelphia Field Division are providing support and assistance to the Philadelphia Police Department for the ongoing investigation. Various local officials, including Sen. Bob Casey and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, have communicated their concern and offered assistance.
