Over the weekend, a heartbreaking incident unfolded in the South Side of Chicago, where a shooting claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl and left 10 others wounded. The Chicago police suspect that this act of violence is tied to gang-related activities.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of 52nd St. and South Damen Ave. around 9:18 p.m. The young girl lost her life due to a gunshot wound to the head, while two young boys, aged 1 and 7, sustained critical injuries from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Response

Deputy Police Chief Don Jerome revealed that law enforcement officers quickly intervened to assist the other eight victims, who ranged in age from 19 to 40. They provided immediate medical aid by applying tourniquets and chest seals to stabilize the injured individuals.

Eye-Witness Account

According to a witness, the victims were gathered outside for a family event when a black sedan approached the area and opened fire on the crowd. The Chicago Police Department disclosed that all the wounded individuals were promptly transported to nearby hospitals by the Chicago Fire Department.
