Michigan Department of Natural Resources Grants
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has opened applications for the Urban and Community Forestry Inflation Reduction Act (UCF IRA) grant program’s second round. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 31.

To assist potential applicants, DNR staff will conduct a one-hour webinar on Thursday, June 13, starting at 1 p.m. The webinar will cover program details, eligibility requirements, application tips, and a Q&A session.
Eligibility and Grant Details
Local units of government, tribal governments, state agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations in Michigan are eligible to apply. Successful applicants can receive reimbursement grants ranging from $10,000 to $225,000 for urban forestry projects benefiting disadvantaged areas.
Projects must involve public engagement in tree planning, establishment, and management, aligning with community priorities such as environmental justice, climate change, and tree health. Eligible activities include data collection, tree planting, engagement, training, and more.
Project Requirements
Projects must be completed by Sept. 1, 2026. No matching funds are required for projects in disadvantaged areas. To access the grant handbook and application, interested parties can visit Michigan.gov/UCF.
Funding Source
The UCF IRA grant program is funded by the USDA Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program and the inflation reduction act of 2022.
