A resident from the southwest suburbs has pleaded guilty to charges of attacking police officers with hornet spray and a baton during the January 6th unrest at the U.S. Capitol. William Lewis, aged 57 and residing in Burbank, made this admission before U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras in a Washington, D.C. court session.

Penalties and Sentencing

According to his plea agreement, Lewis faces a potential prison term of 51-63 months for assaulting law enforcement officers. The final sentencing by Judge Contreras is set for December 16th.

Upon Lewis’ guilty plea, his attorney Blaire Dalton chose not to provide any comments on the matter during the hearing.

Surveillance images revealed Lewis, attired in black with U.S. Army insignia, engaging in violent confrontations with law enforcement outside the Capitol. Body camera footage captured him deploying hornet spray on police, causing discomfort and then proceeding to break windows with a baton.

Arrested in November, Lewis is one of nearly 50 individuals from Illinois implicated in the Capitol breach, part of a massive ongoing inquiry deemed the largest criminal probe in the nation’s history.
