US Senator Brian Schatz to Attend UN Climate Conference in Dubai

US Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a Senate delegation will be present at the annual UN climate conference, COP28, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Highlighting Progress Made by the Inflation Reduction Act

Schatz aims to emphasize the advancements achieved through the Inflation Reduction Act, a law signed a year ago. This legislation focuses on investing in clean energy, reducing energy costs for Hawai‘i families, and striving to decrease US carbon pollution by 40% by 2030.

“A year ago, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate action in American history. This law has made historic investments to drastically Reduce Emissions, accelerate the clean energy transition, and enhance our communities’ resilience to climate change impacts,” Senator Schatz stated.

Exceeding Expectations and Benefiting All

“A year later, the results have surpassed our most optimistic projections,” he added. “Contrary to the predictions of doom and gloom made by fossil fuel companies and other corporate interests, the IRA has not brought about any of those outcomes. Instead, it has created hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs, ignited a manufacturing renaissance, and enhanced community resilience against extreme weather. The IRA is solid evidence that ambitious climate action is not only feasible but also benefits everyone. It is advantageous for the environment and the economy.

Senator Schatz believes that the IRA can and should serve as a blueprint for other nations to implement climate action. “We no longer need to speculate about the outcomes. Climate action works for everyone – we have done it, and others should too,” Senator Schatz concluded.
