The Benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act for Seniors
Roundtable Discussion at Wilmington Senior Center
Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester recently hosted a roundtable discussion at the Wilmington Senior Center. The topic of discussion was the Inflation Reduction Act and its impact on lowering drug prices for seniors. The special guest at this event was Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Key Provisions for Seniors
During the roundtable, Brooks-LaSure highlighted three key provisions available to seniors. These include free vaccines, a $35 monthly cap on covered insulin, and a cap on catastrophic costs for out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses starting next year.
Importance of Informing Seniors
Blunt Rochester emphasized the importance of informing seniors about the available benefits to save on prescription drug costs. Many seniors may not be aware of programs such as free shingle shots or cost-capping for insulin. The goal is to ensure that seniors are aware of these programs so they can take advantage of the benefits.
Projected Savings for Delawareans
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 63,000 Delawareans are expected to save an average of $449 per year on prescription drug costs due to the Inflation Reduction Act.
Providing Resources for Seniors
Blunt Rochester’s office also provided resources to seniors who may need assistance with accessing these benefits or sharing information with others in their community. For more information, visit the following websites: Medicare.gov, Ssa.gov, Shiphelp.org, and BluntRochester.house.gov.
