College football bowl projections for Texas, SMU, Dallas-Fort Worth bowls

Heading into championship weekend, college football experts have projected the bowl destinations for various area schools, including Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. However, Baylor (3-9) and TCU (5-7) will not be participating in bowl games this year. The official bowl announcements will be made on Sunday, Dec. 3, with the CFP selection show starting at 11 a.m. on ESPN.

SMU has several potential matchups in different bowls. According to Kyle Bonagura of ESPN, they could face Miami in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 in Annapolis, Maryland. Mark Schlabach, also from ESPN, predicts a matchup against Boston College in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Dec. 28 in Boston. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports projects SMU to face West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 29 in Memphis, Tennessee. Bill Bender of Sporting News predicts a matchup between SMU and Georgia State in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Dec. 16 in Conway, South Carolina. Erick Smith of USA Today projects SMU to face Air Force in the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 23 in Honolulu. Lastly, Bryan Fischer of Fox Sports predicts a matchup between SMU and Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl.

Texas, on the other hand, has various projections for bowl matchups. Kyle Bonagura of ESPN predicts a matchup between Texas and Penn State in the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 29 in Arlington, Texas. Bill Bender of Sporting News predicts a matchup between Texas and Missouri in the Cotton Bowl. Erick Smith of USA Today also predicts a Texas vs. Missouri matchup in the Cotton Bowl. Lastly, Bryan Fischer of Fox Sports predicts Texas to face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports projects Texas A&M to face Wisconsin in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 in Nashville. Bill Bender of Sporting News predicts a matchup between Texas A&M and Clemson in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 29 in Jacksonville, Florida. Erick Smith of USA Today also predicts a Texas A&M vs. Kansas State matchup in the Texas Bowl. Lastly, Bryan Fischer of Fox Sports predicts Texas A&M to face West Virginia in the Texas Bowl.

Texas Tech’s bowl projections include a matchup against Georgia Southern in the Camellia Bowl on Dec. 23 in Montgomery, Alabama, according to Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. Mark Schlabach of ESPN predicts a matchup between Texas Tech and Cal in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 16 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports also predicts a Texas Tech vs. Cal matchup in the Independence Bowl. Bill Bender of Sporting News projects a matchup between Texas Tech and Marshall in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23 in Fort Worth. Erick Smith of USA Today predicts a Texas Tech vs. Cal matchup in the Independence Bowl. Lastly, Bryan Fischer of Fox Sports predicts Texas Tech to face Georgia Southern in the First Responder Bowl on Dec. 26 in Dallas.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State also have their bowl projections. According to Kyle Bonagura of ESPN, Oklahoma could face Arizona in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28 in San Antonio. Bill Bender of Sporting News predicts a matchup between Oklahoma and NC State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Florida. Erick Smith of USA Today predicts an Oklahoma vs. Arizona matchup in the Alamo Bowl. Lastly, Bryan Fischer of Fox Sports also predicts an Oklahoma vs. Arizona matchup in the Alamo Bowl.

In terms of the North Texas bowls, the Frisco Bowl will take place on Dec. 19 in Frisco. According to the projections, the matchup could be between Arkansas State and Utah State, Texas State and Old Dominion, Texas State and Rice, Army and South Alabama, or Rice and Texas State, depending on the expert. The Armed Forces Bowl will take place on Dec. 23 in Fort Worth, and the projected matchups include Kansas vs. Syracuse, Kansas vs. Wyoming, Iowa State vs. Louisiana, Texas Tech vs. Marshall, UTSA vs. James Madison, or Wyoming vs. Old Dominion. Lastly, the First Responder Bowl will take place on Dec. 26 in Dallas, and the projected matchups include Coastal Carolina vs. New Mexico State, UCF vs. Syracuse, Air Force vs. Appalachian State, West Virginia vs. Wyoming, Iowa State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, or Texas
