Syracuse Man Faces Charges for Using Pepper Spray on Police During U.S. Capitol Attack

A Syracuse man is facing serious charges for his alleged involvement in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in Washington. According to the U.S. Justice Department, Aaron Donald Sauer, 43, has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.

Charges Filed

The charges against Sauer include civil disorder, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct in any restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. In addition to these felonies, he also faces several misdemeanor offenses.

Alleged Actions

The DOJ claims that Sauer not only used pepper spray on police officers during the attack but also destroyed part of a fence on the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol. These actions are seen as direct participation in the violence and chaos that unfolded on that day.

Judicial Process

Sauer is expected to make his initial appearance in the Northern District of New York, where the charges against him will be presented. The outcome of the legal proceedings will determine the consequences he may face for his alleged actions.
