Trump’s Legal Battles: Facing Setbacks
Trump Seeks Trial Delay in New York Criminal Case
Former President Donald Trump is once again attempting to postpone the start of his trial in his New York criminal case. Just a week before jury selection is set to begin, Trump has filed a lawsuit against the judge in an effort to change the venue and lift a gag order preventing him from commenting publicly on certain individuals, including the judge’s daughter who works for a Democrat-aligned consulting firm.
Delay in Trial Start
The trial, which has already been rescheduled from March 25 to April 15 due to late evidence submission after Trump’s lawyers subpoenaed the federal Department of Justice, faces another potential delay as Trump’s legal team pushes for a change of venue. They have voiced concerns that Trump cannot receive a fair trial in Manhattan, citing a survey of 2,000 New Yorkers that allegedly shows higher favorability for Trump outside New York City.
Challenges Against Gag Order
In addition to the venue change request, Trump has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the gag order imposed in the case. The order has prohibited Trump from making public comments, particularly on social media, where he had previously criticized the judge for bias based on his daughter’s professional associations. This is not the first time Trump has sought to have the judge recused from the case, with his previous efforts being rejected in 2023 based on an ethics panel review.
Legal Maneuvers Continue
Despite facing setbacks in various legal battles, Trump remains determined to navigate the complexities of his New York criminal case. The ongoing disputes highlight the contentious nature of the proceedings and the strategic moves being made by both sides as they prepare for the trial ahead.
