Trump Vows to “Free the January 6 Captives” Who Launched a Fatal Uprising on His Behalf, in Early Presidency Move

Donald Trump‘s Priorities for a Second Term

Should the nightmare of a second term for Donald Trump become reality, what are his biggest priorities for his early days in office? Apart from being labeled a dictator and reinstating his Diet Coke button in the Oval Office, Trump aims to free the individuals who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “My first acts as your next President will be to Close the Border, DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and Free the January 6 Hostages being wrongfully imprisoned!” This aligns with his previous remarks about supporting and pardoning those involved in the January 6 attacks.

Trump’s Controversial Statements

Trump’s use of the term “hostages” to describe the convicted individuals from the Capitol attack received strong criticism from US District Judge Royce Lamberth. Lamberth expressed disbelief at the justifications presented by Trump and other Republicans, labeling them as distortions and outright falsehoods.

Legal Consequences of the Capitol Attack

According to the Department of Justice, close to 1,300 individuals have been arrested and charged in connection to the Capitol riot. Approximately 750 people have been sentenced, with a majority receiving prison terms as a consequence of their involvement.

Implications of a Second Term

If Trump secures a second term, it is widely believed that he will evade accountability for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. This could potentially shield him from facing legal consequences related to his actions.
